“papers” magazine

Publication | Typography

For this project, we were assigned to design a magazine and its spreads to create a cohesive publication. “Papers” is a monthly literary commentary magazine focused on the ever-evolving world of literature for new generations, with commentary on the connections between past, present, and future art in relevant media. It includes features about the evolution of theater in a modern world and how art and design use nostalgia in their creative process.

The magazine includes a front and back cover, a contents spread, a feature article spread, and two continuing spreads, with all imagery created in Photoshop and Illustrator. Both the visual and typographic decisions were driven by the topic of the feature article, “Shakespeare Wrote His Best Works During a Plague.”

The design is subversive, imaginative, provoking, thematic, and illustrative. The target audience is writers and small groups of readers who hunt for fresh, unique reading experiences. This is a very narrow readership made up mostly of authors, college students, and people such as literature teachers.
